The Breastpumping Chronicles: Boobies Update :)

 In Motherhood

I am now exclusively pumping.

If you recalled, in my last breastfeeding post, Liam finally had latched on but my supply was unbearably low. NOW, my supply is roughly 20 ounces a day, some days are higher, and some days are way lower. But with the advice of few good ladies, I’ve built some sort of a stash to keep up with Liam’s day-to-day demands.

When on-the-go, I DO formula feed. It’s what has worked best for us but those days are far and few in between. When I do go out with Liamsito, it’s usually no more than 3-4 hours but I ALWAYS carry my pump, so I don’t miss a session.

What I’ve noticed, in my case, is that I pump more when it’s a 3-4 hour gap between sessions rather than 2.

My current pump schedule

( Changes throughout the week but its pretty consistent.)

5:30 a.m.

8:30 a.m.

10:30 a.m.

1:30 p.m.

4:30 p.m.

7:30 p.m.

9:30 p.m

11:30 p.m

Notice two things, my last three sessions are two hours apart and I do NOT pump between 11:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

Most people recommend pumping at night because that’s when it’s “apparently” more productive BUT 1. I didn’t notice much of an increase in supply and 2. I NEED SLEEP.

Yep. Call me lazy or a “HORRIBLE MOM” but shit, I’d rather NOT be a walking zombie. And quite frankly, I’d rather enjoy the entire day with my son.

Again, this is what has worked for me. Find what works for you, and stick with it.

My supply is slowly increasing again. Exactly ONE month ago, I was barely pumping 5 ounces a day! I had an entire week of travel that completely threw me off schedule.

But IT IS MY DECISION to continue exclusively pumping to get that liquid gold for Liamsito.

Not sure how much longer I’ll do this for as I did start introducing solids right at 5 months per medical reasons. BUT I never thought I’d make it this far. AT ALL.

Breastfeeding isn’t easy, pumping isn’t easy, MOTHERHOOD isn’t easy.

It’s all for love. Unconditional love.

Happy pumping, nursing, formula feeding.

Just feed your babies, ladies.

It’s ALL that matters.
